Investing In LED Video Screens? You Should Know These Things First…

Many of our customers send us emails every week with hundreds of different questions about LED rental in Raleigh.

The most common question we get to hear is if all LED screens are made equal, are all LEDs the same? The simplest answer is, no. Before you invest in a LED video screen, it is imperative that you understand these few things first.

What Is An LED Screen?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. These tiny bulbs differ largely from their incandescent counterparts. The three main differences are:

  • They have a longer life
  • They are highly efficient
  • They don’t require a filament

In other words, it doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket when you run an LED sign as they have no filaments and resultantly no heat is produced. While back in the days, companies would pay thousands of dollars in electricity bills to operate variable signs that functioned on incandescent bulbs, LEDs have changed the game.

Now that you know the basics, you should also know three basic industry terms:

  • Pixels– LEDs are grouped together to create what is called a pixel. There could be anywhere between 0 and 25 LEDs in one pixel, or even more.
  • Pitch– This determines the distance between two pixels. The pitch is also responsible for deciding how crisp the image will be.
  • Matrix– The matrix comprises of the number of pixels in height and width. For example, if an LED screen is 96 pixels wide and 24 pixels tall, the matrix would be 24×96.

Monochrome Or Color?

While recent developments in LED video screens have made it considerably easier to secure high quality color digital signage, the decision still largely depends on the application and personal preferences. A few factors that might come into play include:

  • The content
  • Height/placement of sign
  • Speed limits
  • Lanes
  • Viewing distance

Whether you go for monochrome or color, you should invest time into deciding the most practical size that would help get you most views. Make it too small, you are wasting money; make it too big, you are doing the same; only the right size will help you get the best ROI.

Purchase From A Reliable Source

One thing that matters most when purchasing LED video screens is choosing a reliable retailer. With the constant growth in the digital signage industry, many incompetent players are selling poor quality LEDs at impractically cheap rates.

Remember, when you choose to go for LED video screens, you choose to stick to digital signage in the long run. Skimping out on quality here might not be the soundest decision to make.

  • You mentioned that one thing that matters when purchasing LED video screens is choosing a reliable retailer and with the constant growth in the digital signage industry, many incompetent players are selling poor quality LEDs at impractically cheap rates. Do most businesses choose to use LED signs for their advertising? My cousin is trying to start his own restaurant because he loves to cook. Purchasing one of these LED signs might be a good idea.
